A Catholic Charismatic Prayer Community is a group of Catholic parishioners who come together, in an atmosphere of love and support for one another, to pray and to increase their knowledge and love of God, and to show this love in their attitude and action toward others. In their prayer, they emphasize the biblical encouragement to praise God vocally in song and in worship, and thereby give God the honor, respect, praise, and thanksgiving He is due. They also share with one another the various spiritual gifts the Holy Spirit has dispensed to each Christian for the building up of the Body of Christ.
History of the Vision of Peace Prayer Community
In 1982, at Our Lady of Fatima Shrine in Holliston Massachusetts, several Charismatic prayer groups from surrounding parishes joined forces to form one large prayer group. Recalling the urging of Our Lady of Fatima “to pray to obtain peace for the world” we took the name Vision of Peace Prayer Community.
For 38 years on Wednesday evenings the Xaverian Fathers graciously allowed us to use the Shrine facilities so that we could sponsor Mass and a Charismatic Prayer Meeting.
During the course of a typical year we conducted Life in the Spirit Seminars, Healing Services, Spiritual Growth Workshops, Divine Mercy Sunday Celebrations, Coffee House Nights, Prayer Community Retreat and Married Couples Retreat.
In 2020, with the closure of the Shrine buildings due to COVID restrictions we met outdoors on the Shrine grounds. In November, with winter approaching and daylight fading fast, Father Linus Mendis of Saint Thomas Parish in the Town of Millis, invited us to meet at his church. We gratefully accepted his kind invitation. In December of 2020 Father was assigned Administrator of Saint Joseph Parish in Medway and so we followed him there. Soon after we had a Life in the Spirit Seminar in 2021 followed in quick succession by a Healing Service, Divine Mercy Sunday Service, a Pentecost Celebration and a Community Retreat.
Mission Statement for VOP:
The Vision of Peace Charismatic Prayer Community of Saint Joseph Parish seeks to grow in personal relationship with Jesus. Empowered with the gift of the Holy Spirit, we desire to mature in holiness, to evangelize, and to serve others.
How did we arrive at the mission statement?
The Vision of Peace Mission Statement was arrived at through a series of prayerful discussions and iterations over a period of several months, until it was approved by each and every member of the Vision of Peace Prayer Community.
Why is it important to us?
The Mission Statement is important to each member of the Vision of Peace because it explains who we are, what we believe in, and what our prayer, action and efforts are about. It further assists us in our decision making process because it helps us decide what activity to commit to and what initiatives to forego.
