Big changes are happening this year for Confirmation!
The Archdiocese has changed the age of Confirmation to Grade 8. This was a result of a study done by the Archdiocese of Boston in 2017. This study determined 8th Graders would "benefit from receiving the grace of the sacrament at an earlier age, are less likely to have already moved away from a faith commitment, have closer connections with families, and have less to preoccupy them."
Beginning this Fall we are implementing the following changes to our Confirmation Program:
10th Grade - Incoming 10th Graders (already having completed Year 1 of preparation) will complete Year 2 of Confirmation Preparation using our current program. They will be confirmed in the Spring of their 10th Grade year (Spring 2025).
8th and 9th Grade - Incoming 8th and 9th Graders will complete Year 1 of our new Confirmation Preparation Program. The following year in grades 9 and 10, both grades will complete Year 2 of our new Program. Both grades will be confirmed in 2026.
7th Grade - Incoming 7th Graders will begin Year 1 of our new Confirmation Preparation Program. The following year, in Grade 8, they will complete Year 2 of the program. They will be confirmed in 2026 as well.
All Confirmation Preparation classes will be encouraged to attend weekly mass together with their families.
